Chuang: "I can still beat the top players" (VIDEO)

Chuang Chih-Yuan caused the biggest upset at the 2015 China Open so far. Chinese-Taipei's player eliminated Zhang Jike in the round of 16. Chuang recognized that the Olympic champion didn't play his best but even though that victory shows that he can beat top players.

ITTF. Chuang Chih-Yuan showed that he is still a threat to Chinese players. The Taiwanese player defeated Zhang Jike in the round of the 16 at the 2015 China Open. 

Chuang took the lead after winning the first three games by 11-8, 11-9 and 11-9. But the Olympic champion won the next two games by 11-6 and 11-8. The pressure was on the Taiwanese player but he knew how to handle with it and sealed his victory by 14-12. 

After his incredible victory, he said that Zhang Jike didn't play at his best level: "Always difficult playing against Chinese players. He didn't play his best today, as I don't think he has been training a lot, and he has not been playing his Super League matches"

Chuang also talked about when the Chinese player fougth back: "I was leading 3-0 and feeling confortable, and then he started tocome back into the match. I then mentally struggled as I was wary of him coming back. It was stressing me and my game suffered. I had to just block out all the negative thoughts, relax and just play my game. The last game was very tight, I was able to win the crucial points and I am very pleased that I got across the line."

The Taiwanese player also confessed that his win was a surprise for him but is also an evidence that he can overcome top players: "I have not played well recently, so this match was a surprise for me to win. It shows that I can still beat the top players."
