ITTF. The 2015 Qatar Open reached its final day today but before the concluding stage, players first competed for the seat in the finals and upsets were recorded.
Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Marcos Freitas had their face off in the semifinal match of the upper half of the draw. The German player was quick to establish his rhythm in the arena and nailed a powerful starter of 11-2. However, Marcos Freitas was also quick to level off the playing field.
Their match got intense with Freitas scoring one more set. But in the sixth game, Ovtachrov successfully ended it. He completed 11-2, 10-12, 11-9, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8 into the finals.
In the lower half of the draw, veterans Vladimir Samsonov and Chuang Chih Yuan competed for the second seat in the finals. This time, the biggest upset was recorded as the second seed Chuang Chih Yuan was swept in 11-13, 12-14, 5-11, 7-11.
A big upset was recorded in the women’s division today after the top seed from Singapore, Feng Tianwei was eliminated by Germany’s Han Ying in a nail-biting semifinal match. Feng Tianwei forced a decider but in the last set, Han Ying got the opportunities. Feng Tianwei was defeated in 11-6, 11-8, 7-11, 10-12, 7-11, 11-5, 10-12.
Meanwhile, seventh seed, Elizabeta Samara defeated Yang Haeun in 11-5, 10-12, 11-7, 11-6, 11-5.
