Sina Sports. The Asian Championships progressed today with the Mixed Doubles taking its final stage. China won but in the Women’s Singles, China lost.
Fan Zhendong and Chen Meng were the last pair of the Chinese Team left in the Mixed Doubles after their teammates, Fang Bo and Mu Zi had an early exit. They were able to defend their position well and reached the finals today.
They faced the Singaporeans Yang Zi and Yu Mengyu, the pair who defeated Fang Bo and Mu Zi.
As soon as their match started, control was already at the side of the Chinese Team, giving not much chance for the opponent.
Fan Zhendong and Chen Meng finished the match in 11-8, 11-3, 11-5, 11-9, and won the championship title.
After having a free round against Ding Ning, Song Maeum has used her advantages well. She reached the quarterfinals and faced a strong opponent, Mu Zi of China. This time, Song Maeum’s momentum stopped working. Mu Zi sealed the match with 11-4, 11-3, 11-6, 11-8.
Chen Meng also posted a sweep victory against the Japanese team captain, Ai Fukuhara. Chen Meng scored 11-7, 11-9, 11-8, 11-5. Another Japanese lost in the round and she is the youngest member, Mima Ito. Despite some good sets, Mima Ito failed against Zhu Yuling (6-11, 4-11, 5-11, 11-8, 22-20, 9-11).
The highlight in this round was the encounter between Feng Tianwei and Liu Shiwen. Earlier this year, Liu Shiwen lost the finals in the Asian Cup which devastated her. Today, it seems that such defeat was haunting her again.
Liu Shiwen lost her momentum as the match progressed and scored 7-11, 11-7, 11-8, 6-11, 7-11, 11-13.
