Asian Games Website. The 2014 Asian Games Singles had its quarterfinals today with Joo Saehyuk making his home crowd proud.
Xu Xin scored 13-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-5 against Gao Ning while Fan Zhendong crushed the hopes of Japanese Koki Niwa in 11-4, 11-6, 12-10, 11-7.
Chinese Taipei's Chuang Chih Yuan also stood victorious in the round with a 4-1 score against North Korean Pak Sinhyok. Chuang scored 11-6, 11-8, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8
The highlight of the round was the match between Joo Saehyuk of the host country against Japanese main player Jun Mizutani. At this point, they are the last representatives for their team in the Men's Singles.
For Joo Saehyuk, this competition means so much as this is already his last Asian Games in his career. However, fighting against a younger player could be quite a challenge for him. He struggled in the opening set but managed to get the first advantage.
Mizutani immediately caught up and even posted a 2-1 lead. Joo Saehyuk got the control in the fourth, levelling himself in 2-2. The fifth set was critical for both players and they fought hard for a 3-2 lead. The South Korean player was the one who succeeded.
After enduring a tight set, Joo Saehyuk gained more momentum into the sixth set scoring a 5-0 lead. Jun Mizutani wasn't able to catch up anymore. Joo took advantage and sealed the match with 13-11, 7-11, 8-11, 11-7, 14-12, 11-3.
